This transcription is not my own work; it was contributed to the site by another derek webb fan.

I haven't had a lot of time for guitar recently, but this is one of several tabs that various nice people have sent me. I haven't reviewed or editted them, so no guarantees about accuracy, but I'm sure people will find them useful. If you have transcribed a Caedmon's Call or derek webb song that's not already on this site, please feel free to send it in to be shared here.

Wedding Dress
Derek Webb

Transcribed from a live performance in Conway, AR on the Overdressed tour.
It's played Capo 8 in G Form which puts it in Eb Major (same as the album version).
The TAB here is pretty bare bones. Derek filled out the implied chords a lot more than
I've shown here so just play around with it until it sounds good.

Verse 1
Em Cadd9 G
If you could love me as a wife
Em Cadd9 G
And for my wedding gift, your life
Em Cadd9 G
Should that be all I’d ever need
                                   Em Cadd9 G
Or is there more I’m looking for

Em Cadd9 G
Should I read between the lines
Em Cadd9 G
And look for blessings in disguise
Em Cadd9 G
To make me handsome, rich, and wise
                               Em Cadd9 G D/F#
Is that really what you want

Chorus
        Cadd9
Cause I am a whore I do confess
      Em7
But I put You on just like a wedding dress
     G D/F#
And I run down the aisle, run down the aisle
      Cadd9
I'm a prodigal with no way home
      Em7
But I put You just like a ring of gold
     G D/F# Em (intro riff)
And I run down the aisle, run down the aisle to You

Verse 2

So could you love this bastard child
When I don't trust You to provide
With one hand in a pot of gold
And the other in Your side

Cause I am so easily satisfied
By the call of a lover so less wild
That I would take a little cash
Over Your very flesh and blood

repeat Chorus

Bridge
        D/F# Em7
Because money can not buy
  D/F# Em7
A husband's jealous eye
     D/F# Em7 G Cadd9
When you have knowingly deceived His wife

Chorus 2x

Intro Riff and end on G

Wedding Dress
by Derek Webb

Capo 4 (album version is capo 3)

  Am F2 C C2 F Em
E -0-0--0--0-1-0-
A -1-1--1--1-1-0-
D -2-2--0--0-2-0-
G -2-3--2--2-3-2-
B -0-0--3--3-3-2-
E -X-X--0--3-X-0-

The keys to this song are simple. At the end of every verse riff, the little
fill part is really simple. Just keep your first finger on A1, then hammer
on and off quickly on G2, then D2. I find that little hammers occasionally
on the D string during F’s, and on the G string during the chorus C
transition to Em are nice as well. Season to taste I guess! And I'd say run
your guitar with just a little bit of crunch (via distortion, gain on a tube
amp, whatever)...not much. And light reverb (very light).

Am F2 C
If you could love me as a wife
and for my wedding gift, your life
should that be all I’d ever need
or is there more I’m looking for

and should I read between the lines
and look for blessings in disguise
to make me handsome, rich, and wise
is that really what you want

(chorus)
F
I am a whore I do confess
Am
but I put you on just like a wedding dress
C2
and I run down the aisle
Em
and I run down the aisle
I’m a prodigal with no way home
but I put you on just like a ring of gold
and I run down the aisle to you

so could you love this bastard child
though I don’t trust you to provide
with one hand in a pot of gold
and with the other in your side
I am so easily satisfied
by the call of lovers so less wild
that I would take a little cash
over your very flesh and blood

(chorus)

because money cannot buy
a husband’s jealous eye
when you have knowingly deceived his wife
